The newest Toyota Prius Hybrid gets 51mpg on the city and 48mpg in the highway. The way the car was built, it gets to recharge while sitting idle in city traffic and as a result, it has a better gas mileage than other cars.

The savings you will get by getting a hybrid depends roughly on how much you drive your vehicle and on the current mpg that your car gets.

Let's pretend that your car averages about 25mpg and the hybrid averages 50mpg, your fuel savings are about half.

How many miles does the average individual drive annually? Let's just pretend it is 10,000 miles for simplicity of the calculations.

Your old junker would use 400 gallons of gasoline but the new Prius hybrid would use 200 gallons of gasoline. So you would save approximately 200 gallons of gasoline a year.

If the average price of gasoline is set at $3/gallon, then you would save $600 a year, or $50 per month.

If the price of gasoline remains steady at about $3 a gallon over the next 10 years (which would be absurd to believe), you would pay off about 1/3 the car in gasoline alone.

This is why it is important to look at cars that have the best fuel economy when purchasing a car.

The ratings and comparisons of different hybrid vehicles on this website is currently unavailable. You also have to rely on published numbers by the car industry.

Gas Prices are soaring nationwide. Some analysts believe that $6 a gallon is not only possible but very probable. That is why I created this site. I wanted to give people an opportunity to find a new car that best suited their needs with respect to gas mileage. A more efficient vehicle is best to save on gasoline.
